Grassroots Policy and Advocacy: Everyday People Making a Difference

ABCDThis workshop will inspire everyday people to become policy advocates by challenging participants to recognize themselves as experts and to identify ways to share their expertise with decision-makers.

We will provide participants with an opportunity to dialogue about leadership and broaden this discussion with attention to diversity and cultural competency. In addition, participants will gain working knowledge of the legislative, budget and other key processes.

We will identify key components of how we communicate with decision-makers, including defining message, targeting audience, and delivery of the message, and engage in activities to apply advocacy skills. Moreover, we will discuss establishing and/or reestablishing relationships with legislators and their staff.

Each of these activities will help to demystify: Impacting public policy, advocacy, relationship building, and networking and reinforce the importance of everyday people's participation in policy and advocacy activities.

In Policy and Advocacy for Everyday People you will:

  • Learn how to effectively engage in policy and advocacy activities
  • Identify new tools for communicating with decision-makers
  • Recognize the imperative to share your expertise
  • Be inspired to involve others in policy and advocacy activities at various levels

Agenda Highlights:
