Training Associates Project (TAP)
The Training Associates Project (TAP) is a unique effort that allows emerging leaders, collaborative members and community residents to become trainers in several core topic areas. We combine leadership development and capacity building so that participants can successfully train others. By building a learning community, CCP facilitates peer learning and a collegial atmosphere in which participants coach and support one another.
TAP benefits communities by making more trainers accessible at the local level. These workshops are often adapted by TAP trainers for multi-lingual audiences and carry skill building deeper into the community. TAP trainers' effectiveness also is enhanced by their wealth of stories, expertise and real world experience that is essential for translating theory into practice.
The TAP curriculum includes content in the following key areas:
- Personal and professional leadership development
- Adult learner theory
- Teaching to multiple learning styles
- Facilitation and presentation skills
- Training logistics
- Workshop development
TAP trainers are also exposed to a variety of topic areas such as:
As a result of their participation, TAP trainers report greater confidence in public speaking ability. Some achievements of the TAP team include:
- Co-trained with CCP staff and Jody Kretzmann, co-director of the ABCD Institute at Northwestern University, to engage the community in substance abuse prevention and harm reduction at a training sponsored by Sacramento County's Project Help.
- Presented the Right Question Project advocacy techniques to members of NCSOPHE (Northern CA Society of Professional Health Educators).
- Co-trained with CCP staff at the Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation's national institute.
